HEALTH SERVICES


The BOH provides medical services including disease surveillance and education, health screenings and vaccination clinics. The following services are offered: Blood Pressure Clinic – Jenks Senior Center – 1st & 3rd Thursday of month 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM Tuberculosis Testing – Tuesdays by appointment Annual Flu Clinic Meningitis Clinic for high school seniors Distribution of vaccine to Winchester physicians For specific information regarding communicable diseases, please click here

WINCHESTER HEALTH REGULATIONS

In addition to upholding State and Federal regulations involving the protection of public health and the environment, the Board of Health has adopted regulations governing the following areas:

Animal Regulations - Keeping of animals such as horses, sheep, goats, pigs, etc. requires a permit. Keeping of animals such as horses, sheep, goats, pigs, etc. requires a permit.

Asbestos Removal – Asbestos removal requires a permit from both the State Department of Environmental Protection and the Winchester Health Department

Dumpster Regulations – In order to maintain a dumpster, a permit must be obtained from the Health Department.

Food Establishments/Food Service - All food service establishments (restaurants), food retailers (convenience and grocery stores), and food events must be permitted to operate.

Hazardous Waste – These regulations protect public health and safety from the risks posed by hazardous waste contamination

Landfill Regulations – Any person who places more than one 30-yard truckload of fill on their property must obtain a permit from the Health Department

Massage Therapy – The Board of Health permits every person who engages in the practice of massage therapy and permits every establishment where therapists practice.

Power Sanding – It is illegal to power sand a structure that contains lead paint.

Retail Sale of Tobacco Products – The Board of Health conducts compliance checks for the sale of tobacco and permits retailers.

Tanning - To operate a tanning facility utilizing equipment to emit ultra violet radiation (tanning beds) a permit is required.

Transportation of Rubbish
– Transporting rubbish through the town of Winchester requires a permit from the Board of Health - (Transfer Station Stickers).

Waterfowl – Feeding waterfowl in the town is prohibited.

Well Permits – Installation of a well requires a permit from the Health Department.

WINCHESTER SUBSTANCE ABUSE COALITION (WSAC)


The purpose of the Coalition is to reduce alcohol and other drug use in Winchester. The primary goal of the WSAC is to reduce drug use in the minors of the community by creating a comprehensive prevention framework that focuses on youth through the provision of substance abuse prevention education to youth; adults including parents, training in substance abuse identification and referral, and support to the professionals who with the community in providing these services . The coalition will collaborate in identifying factors that place youth at risk and work to identify and implement program that have significant potential to reduce underage substance abuse. The Coalition will work to support policies that clearly identify the risks and outline consequences to the youth and the community of underage drinking and substance abuse.

The membership is comprised of individuals and organizational representatives dedicated to the prevention of risky behaviors. The membership consists of organizations in areas such as: health, human services, education, law enforcement, youth, and parent organizations. The WSAC works collaboratively with individuals, town agencies, private organizations, and public organizations to reduce substance use among town youth.
