The NAN Project works to promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention programs for young people, using a trained peer-to-peer model.
The NAN Project emphasizes:
- Acknowledging that mental illness is a very serious problem;
- Accepting mental health challenges as illness of the brain, similar to physical ailments, which can be treated;
- Educating families and children about mental health resources in their communities.
The approach creates a safe space for students to discuss mental health and related topics, and educates them on the resources available and the steps they should take if they are concerned about themselves or a loved one.
The NAN Project will be working with McCall 8th graders in April and May. This presentation will be the same one given to students.
Together let's make our community safe, healthy and stigma-free!
