Construction Activity on Bacon Street
October 2022 Update

Over the next few weeks, Eversource construction crews are continuing construction activity for the Mystic to Woburn Line Project. This project is designed to increase reliability of the electric grid in the area to meet growing demands for electricity. Crews from Middlesex Construction, WA Chester, and Directional Technologies will be working on Bacon Street between Wedgemere Station and Symmes Rotary. Construction crews are utilizing a horizontal directional drilling method called “HDD” to install an underground transmission line beneath the Aberjona River during construction hours.

Construction Hours

Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Saturdays: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Work may be conducted beyond normal work hours given approval from the Town of Winchester. Some work activities will run 24hrs.

Construction Activities

Drilling activities will be complete this week.

Tomorrow (10/18), crews will move pipe sections from Main Street to Bacon Street for final welding. Welding will occur in the middle of the roadway for 3-5 days. On the final day, pipe will be installed underground lasting up to 24hrs.

Once the pipe is installed, crews will install a small section of duct bank between Winslow Road and Symmes Rotary.

Traffic Management

We coordinate closely with the Winchester Police Department and town officials to maintain a safe and effective flow of traffic. During construction hours, access to Bacon Street will be detoured utilizing Fenwick Road and Grove Street. Access to Bacon Street from Winslow Road will be closed. Local access to property owners and businesses will be maintained along with large vehicle traffic whenever possible.

If you have questions, please ask a police detail officer or crew member. Once pipe installation begins, some Bacon Street residents between Mystic Valley Parkway and Symmes Rotary may not have driveway access for up to 24 hours. Alternate parking is recommended at Wedgemere Station, Ginn Field, or Winslow Road. Vehicles will not be able to cross the double yellow line as pipe will be located along the middle of the roadway. Objects in the roadway will be clearly identified. Please exercise caution when traveling on Bacon Street.
