[ARCHIVED] TRANSFER STATION CONSTRUCTION

Transfer Station

Please note that demolition of the former incinerator at the Winchester Transfer Station will begin on Sunday, April 30, 2023.  It is expected to take two days to demolish the building.  This may occur over two weekends because limited abatement will occur during the demolition stage.  Abatement activities were previously conducted to remove all accessible asbestos containing materials.  Limited inaccessible asbestos will be abated as the demolition proceeds.

An exclusion zone will be set up surrounding the perimeter of the demolition area to restrict access during the demolition activities.  Following securing of the demolition area, demolition will proceed from the top story down with a long-arm excavator, which will knock the upper stories into the existing building basement.  Demolition waste will be sorted and trucked out from the lower portion of the facility at ground level.  Dust control will be provided continuously during the demolition with water sprayed onto all surfaces during the work.

Any questions prior to the demolition contact the Town Engineers Office at 781-721-7120.  Any concerns day of demolition call 781-248-7903.
