MBTA Nighttime Construction Advisory
Winchester Commuter Rail Station to Undergo
Safety Improvement Work
WINCHESTER, MA, December 13, 2018 – The MBTA announced it will perform nighttime construction activities at Winchester Commuter Rail Station 9:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m., each night from Monday, December 17, through the early morning hours of Saturday, December 22.
The activity is part of an early works contract to maintain pedestrian safety standards until a major renovation project at the station commences in about a year.
Beginning this Friday (12/14), workers will cordon off a small section of the reserved parking area off Waterfield Road (comprised of about 4 parking spaces) to store materials and equipment. The work entails selective trip-hazard repairs, and un-even pavement replacement.
Construction equipment will include the use of gasoline powered hand tools and hydraulic jack hammers during the initial hours of each shift. This work will be followed by less disruptive activities such as setting new pavement with small rollers and skid steers.
All ramps and platforms will be returned to their full operational capacity at the end of each shift to allow for an unimpeded morning commute. Additional station safety improvements are expected in early 2019.
