From the Assessor's Office

The Assessor's Office conducts regular cyclical inspections in compliance with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue guidelines. The purpose of the inspection process is to verify building and property data which are the basis for the assessed values.

The Assessors have contracted with Patriot Properties to assist in conducting property visits. They will be visiting properties over the next several months.

Annual Town Census

The Town Clerk’s office mailed the Town Census on January 20th. The mailing also includes instructions on how to purchase Transfer Station permits and dog licenses online. Permits and tags can also be obtained in person on Mondays from 8am-7pm, Tuesday through Thursday from 8am-4pm and Friday from 8am – 12 noon.  Drop boxes are also available at the front and rear of Town Hall. 

The census must be returned to stay active on the voter list. The Annual Town Election is scheduled for Saturday March 18, 2023 at the WHS Gymnasium.

On-going construction updates

  1. Eversource 345kV Project – Limited work is on-going as weather permits on Cross and Washington Streets. Eversource has start work on Lake Avenue (near Horn Pond) in Woburn in the coming weeks. Traffic will be restricted to one-lane alternating traffic in that area during construction.  
  2. Eversource 115kV Project – No additional work is expected until the spring. Eversource has committed to installing the speed tables on Woodside Road as designed by Toole and previously discussed by the Board.
  3. Main Street Bridge Railing Repairs – Work started again last week on the upstream side of the bridge to install the bridge rail caps.
  4. North Reservoir Dam – Construction is substantially complete and shut down for the winter. Final loam, seed, and plantings will be installed in the spring.
  5. Transfer Station Renovation – Demolition of the incinerator building is scheduled for mid to late February pending Eversource schedule for transformer installation.
  6. Muraco School Roof – All roof replacements are complete. Fascia and soffit work is on-going as well as other repairs. Work is scheduled to be complete by March. The contractor has been working around the school schedule and weather, which has delayed completion a bit.
  7. Parkhurst Modular Classrooms – Triumph Modulars has been awarded the contract and are currently manufacturing the classrooms. Site work will start in April and classroom installation will begin in June for a September occupancy.

Kid Connection Fundraiser

Winchester Recreation Department's Kid Connection Pre-School is having a fundraiser at McDonald's, 187 Cambridge Street, Woburn from 4-7pm tomorrow.  20% of all proceeds will be donated to the program.  School spirit never tasted so good!

The DCR needs lifeguards


The DCR is looking to hire lifeguards this summer.  Qualified lifeguard and instructor candidates that work for DCR do not have to pay to take certification classes.  

To take a lifeguarding class you must be a strong swimmer and at least 16 years old.  Please visit the Town's website for more information.

Town Meeting documents!  Spring Town Meeting starts April 24th in the WHS Auditorium.   Once the warrant is finalized it will be posted on the Town's website - https://www.winchester.us/241/Town-Meeting.  Every document that is mailed to town meeting members is also uploaded here.  You can find warrants, motion books and yellow sheets dating back to the 2014 Fall Town Meeting here.  You can easily find this information by clicking on "Town Meeting" in the services section of the front page (blue box under the calendar).

Community Calendar
