Project EcoMusic, founded and led by composer Luke Blackburn, presents conservation as an artistic practice. Founded in 2019, the collaborative partners with arts organizations to demonstrate how they can impact the natural world through interdisciplinary collaboration. This accessible and vital concert will present four stunning commissions of new works in celebration of the establishment of Winchester’s Monarch Waystation. The music at this concert will portray, with warmth and humor and beauty, a variety of fascinating insect species.
Featuring flute, clarinet, violin, cello and harp, these chamber works represent the inner lives of a “menagerie of spectacular creatures.” Peter Scoma’s “Dragonfly” explores the transformative and reflective life journey of the dragonfly; Emily Koh’s en·to·moph·a·gy” reminds us of the nutrient value of consuming tasty insects; Joseph Sowa’s “3000 Miles” is a curated tour of the yearly monarch migration.
